When it comes to the décor and accessories people want in their homes, it really just comes down to two things, quality and appearance. Home and office owners want functionality, a good design, quality parts and manufacturing, and a warranty or guarantee. These are probably the most important factors when deciding if a product is right for their property.
But very close behind all of those expectations comes another consideration – visual appeal. For years, sliding glass doors offered one of these features, but not the other. Even until recently, many moveable glass window and door units have displayed very poor function and durability. The early generations of these accessories were especially known for their flimsiness and instability.
The thinner glass they would use because it made mobility easier also made chips, cracks, and breaks much easier as well. Local handymen and neighborhood contractors made a killing in the 70s and 80s coming out to people’s homes and offices to fix a sliding glass door that had fallen off of the track, moved out of alignment, or had become stuck or jammed.
For this reason, engineers and designers decided that it was time to not only increase the stability, durability, and strength of sliding glass doors and units, but also to increase the overall functionality and appearance of them.
By expanding their availability to not only one double length door, but to entire walls and even wrapping around corners, this new generation of sliding and folding glass is higher quality, better functioning, and more aesthetically pleasing.
